The 753 Code: Spirit, Body, and Mind

Stay strong. Stay true. Stay 753!

Grandmaster Pedro Valente Sr. put it simply: “The secret of jujutsu is in its philosophy.” The 753 Code is that philosophy — seven virtues, five values for the body, three principles of mind. It’s not a belief system or something you’re tested on. It’s the framework underneath everything we teach.

What the 753 Code Means

Seven, five, three: Spirit, Body, and Mind. It comes from the Valente Brothers, who codified it as part of their jujutsu curriculum in Miami — not anything mystical, just a simple, memorable framework for how to train and how to live. We teach it here exactly as it was passed down.

The 7 Virtues We Train By

The seven virtues make up the “Spirit” of the code:

  • Rectitude
  • Courage
  • Benevolence
  • Respect
  • Honesty
  • Honor
  • Loyalty

These aren’t words on a wall — they’re meant to shape how you treat people, both on the mat and off it.

The 5 Values for the Body

Five values make up the “Body” — the physical half of the code:

  • Exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Rest
  • Hygiene
  • Positivity

Students often notice these change their sleep and diet before their training even improves.

The 3 Principles of Mind

Three principles make up “Mind”:

  • Awareness
  • Balance
  • Flow

This is where jujutsu stops being just physical — it’s the mental discipline that holds the rest of it together.

How the Code Shapes Our Classes

The 753 Code isn’t a separate lesson bolted onto class — it’s woven into how we teach. A coach might connect a virtue like respect to how you train with a partner, or tie a health value to how you recover between sessions.

Kids get a simplified version focused on respect, effort, and self-control. Nobody’s required to adopt any of it to train here — most students just find it a useful way to think about training and daily life.

FAQs About the 753 Code

Where does the 753 Code come from?2026-09-24T20:58:09+00:00

The Valente Brothers, who codified it as part of their jujutsu curriculum in Miami. The numbers refer to seven virtues, five values for the body, and three principles of mind — nothing mystical. We teach it as it was passed down.

Do I have to follow the code to train here?2026-09-24T20:58:46+00:00

No. Membership doesn’t depend on adopting it, and nobody tests you on it. Most students find it a useful framework for training and daily habits, and instructors introduce it gradually rather than all at once.

How do the virtues apply outside the gym?2026-09-24T20:58:59+00:00

They map onto ordinary decisions — honesty, discipline, how you treat people — which is the point of framing them as virtues rather than rules. Students often say the health values change their sleep and diet before their training improves.

Do you teach the code to children?2026-09-24T20:59:11+00:00

Yes, in a simplified form focused on respect, effort, and self-control. Kids respond well to a short, memorable framework, and our youth instructors weave it into class rather than lecturing about it.

Is the 753 Code religious?2026-09-24T20:59:22+00:00

No — it’s a code of conduct and health, not a belief system. It borrows from values embedded in jujutsu that predate any single religion, and students of every background train here.
